Why did I start my own blog? In marketing, I am always hearing the words “build your personal brand”. But what does this really mean? I know who I am, what my goals are, and I am working every day to achieve those goals…what else do I need to do?
I have been blogging for Society 19 for almost two years now and blogging for work over the past year. But neither of those are helping me build MY personal brand. I want to write about things that I am really passionate about! So I have decided to start adding blogging to my life in a huge way! And here are some things you may need to start a blog.
Have a Little Passion
The first big step to starting your own blog is finding something you are truly passionate about. It can be anywhere from photography, fashion, interior design, travel, food, fitness, lifestyle, anything you are truly passionate about! Take some time to look into other blogs to see how others express their passions.
Once you find your blogging niche it can be easy to find inspiration everywhere. Getting excited about sharing your passion is half the fun of blogging!
Have a Little Patience
Contrary to popular belief, creating a blog is a time consuming effort. If you’re anything like me, choosing the theme can be an ordeal by itself. But don’t worry; building a blog can be really fun! I have absolutely loved building my blog! But it definitely takes a little time! Spend some time doing research on different blogging platforms, themes, and domain names.
Have a Little Time
Starting a blog has been on my mind for a few months now, but I decided to hold off for a few reasons.
- As a student athlete I decided to wait till my season was over, as my schedule was already crowded enough.
- Summer is almost here! Which is the perfect time to start your blog, as you will have lots of time to post, and drive traffic towards your blog.
- My Disney College Program is right around the corner and what better time to start blogging about it!
Have a Little Routine
Now I know the ‘typical’ college student stays up late and rolls out of bed at noon, definitely not me! I swear I am a grandma, my internal clock wakes me up at 6am every morning, and if I am not in bed by 10pm I am not a happy camper. So I knew that early morning would be the perfect time for me. Just find a time in your day to sit down and relax with some blogging and work it into your every day!
So now you know how I started my little blog. What are some tips you have for a new blogger? Comment below.
